Manekinekod, a cat from Athens

Happy summer and welcome back to Femaletronica - a series of blog posts dedicated to promoting women in electronic music.

Recently I have been helping organise a mini music & visual festival in London, Alpha-ville 09. At Alpha-ville we have invited a veruy interesting musisican from Athens, Eleni Adamopoulou, aka Manekinekod. Started classical music at the age of 12, and continued as a piano & flute player. She has participated in classical choirs as a singer, performed with a woodwind band for 2 years, explored the jazz music with different bands, played as a keyboardist in many alternative indie bands, and finished her studies as a music teacher.

Always fond of different rhythms and styles, she gathered all the sounds from different movements to create a sound collage and experiment with sounds that we rarely pay attention to. Sounds from machines & objects, create a factory of rhythms, while noise samples are transformed into melodies. Her narration explores a world of non-existence.

Magnitophono & Manekinekod are her 2 music projects, that were created in 2007. Please check them out,

Manekinekos are beckoning cats in Japan and are supposed to bring good luck to households and beckon guests to come in.

Her first release was in the compilation “4 women no cry, vol.3” by Monika Enterprise label (Berlin). Following the release she toured with other women from the “4 women no cry” series in Germany & Poland.

Participating in the “Worldtronics” festival in Berlin, she improvised with 7 women from different countries.

Now she is working on her first album as “Manekinekod”.
